PSHE at BIRD’S BUSH

TEACHING PSHE IN SCHOOL

At Bird’s Bush, we know that PSHE education helps children and young people to stay safe, healthy and prepared for life’s challenges and opportunities. To ensure that our children have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively navigate the complexities of life in the 21st century, we have chosen the KAPOW Scheme of Work.

The scheme covers key areas which will support children to make informed choices now and in the future around their health, safety, wellbeing, relationships, and financial matters and will support them in becoming confident individuals and active members of society.

Lessons cover the statutory requirements and have been carefully planned to be age appropriate. They are broken down into key topics that are taught each year from EYFS and build on the children’s learning.

Our key topics include:

EYFS:

  • Self-regulation
  • Building relationships
  • Managing self

Key stage 1 and 2:

  • Families and relationships
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Safety and the changing body
  • Citizenship
  • Economic wellbeing

WHY IS PSHE IMPORTANT TO OUR CHILDREN?

Year 2

We learn things to help us keep safe, this will keep us safe in the world.

Year 3

PSHE is important because we need to learn what is healthy for us and what is not. We also learn how to keep our body and our minds fit and healthy.

Year 5

PSHE is important because it teaches us how to be nice. We also learn about parliament, laws. We also have to know how to look after each other and ourselves. We also learn how to be positive role models and be nice to others.
